It has been an unforgettable and rewarding experience to finish a year as a Field Data Collector (FDC) in the HASP-SKAN department at Happiest Health. I was thrilled about the chance when I joined, but I also had a lot of uncertainties and anxieties. I was concerned about my ability to communicate clearly and earn participants’ confidence because my job required me to meet with community members, collect data, explain study details, and seek informed consent. I was also worried about managing tasks on my own and overcoming obstacles in the field.

However, I progressively gained greater confidence in my work with the help of my team, frequent update meetings, and refresher training sessions. I gained a better understanding of study procedures, data collection techniques, and the significance of preserving accuracy and quality thanks to the training classes. I also gained the confidence to deal with various circumstances in the field thanks to these training.

I have been actively involved in data gathering, participant informed consent forms, blood camp coordination, and sensitization efforts over the past year. I was able to engage with folks from all backgrounds and learn about their concerns through these events. I learned the value of patience, empathy, and clear communication by outlining the study’s goal and making sure participants were at ease before giving their consent. From a professional standpoint, this experience has introduced me to community-based studies and public health research. I now have a better understanding of data management, ethical behavior, participant involvement, and field operations. These abilities have bolstered my professional base and will help me advance in my job.

Looking back on my first day today, I am proud of how far I have come. My initial feelings of anxiety and worry have been replaced by self-assurance and a feeling of accomplishment. I am appreciative of Happiest Health and the HASP-SKAN team for offering me assistance and opportunity for further learning along this journey. In addition to helping me advance professionally, this past year has made me a more capable and self-assured person.
