Scientists at SKAN RT investigate the biology of the nervous system with the aim of understanding the causes of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. Our research addresses fundamental questions about brain function, including how the nervous system enables movement, perception, learning and memory.
By uncovering the molecular and cellular processes that underpin healthy brain function, we seek to generate the knowledge required to develop new strategies for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of neurological disease.
Notably, our research also focuses on understanding disease mechanisms arising from defects in translational regulation and aging associated proteinopathies seen in brain. At SKAN RT, we employ an integrated approach that combines genome sequencing, single-cell sequencing (scRNA-seq), cell biology, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology, transcriptomics, unbiased proteomics, gene-editing technologies and organ-on-chip models to gain deeper insight into disease mechanisms.
By integrating these approaches, we aim to identify pathological mechanisms which may accelerate the development of effective therapies.
