Fermentation Lab

The Microbiology Fermentation Laboratory is equipped with advanced anaerobic fermentation and colon simulation systems designed to investigate host–microbiome–environment interactions under controlled conditions. A key feature of the facility is the in vitro colon-model platform, which enables the cultivation and functional assessment of complex human fecal microbial communities while closely mimicking physiological conditions of the gastrointestinal tract.

The facility supports studies on the impact of dietary components, particularly dietary fibers and prebiotics, on gut microbial composition, metabolic activity, and short-chain fatty acid production. In addition, the colon-model can be utilized to evaluate the effects of environmental contaminants, including pesticide residues, on gut microbiome structure, function, and microbial metabolism. By integrating microbial cultivation, fermentation analytics, and molecular biology approaches, the laboratory provides a robust platform for mechanistic investigations of microbiome-mediated health outcomes and risk assessment studies.
