Dr. Pramod Kumar Pal obtained MBBS degree from Calcutta Medical College, MD (Medicine) from PGIMER, Chandigarh and DM (Neurology) from the National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. He joined as a Clinical Fellow in Movement Disorders at the Neurodegenerative Disorders Centre, Vancouver, Canada and later obtained further training, as a clinical fellow in Electrophysiology in Movement Disorders, Human Motor Control and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation at Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Canada. In January, 2000, Dr. Pal joined the Department of Neurology, NIMHANS as a Faculty and served as Professor of Neurology and the Program Director of the post-doctoral Fellowship Program in Movement Disorders, till 30th April, 2026, when he superannuated. Currently he is working as Professor and Senior Consultant of Neurology at St. John’s Medical College Hospital, Bengaluru and Senior Consultant in Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders at Happiest Health and SKAN Research Trust, Bengaluru.

His areas of interest are Parkinson’s disease, ataxias, rare movement disorders, functional movement disorders, infection related movement disorders, Human Motor physiology, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, advanced neuroimaging and genetics. He was one of the pioneers in the use of intra-parotid Botulinum toxin injection for treatment of drooling of saliva in PD. Currently he is primarily working on Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease and associated with the SKAN funded project “Comparison of Clinical, Imaging, Electrophysiological, and Genetic Biomarkers of Motor and Non-motor features of Young versus Late onset Parkinson’s Disease: A Longitudinal Disease Progression Study of 1000-PD Cohort from India (YLOPD Biomarker Study). Dr. Pal has more than 580 publications in National and International journals and Books, and has i10-index of 292 and an H-index of 62. His ORCID ID is 0000-0002-4085-2377.

Dr. Pal has significant contributions to Neurology and in particular Movement Disorders in India and Internationally. He served as President of Indian Academy of Neurology and Movement Disorders Society of India (MDSI), Secretary of MDSI and MDS-AOS, and Chair of MDS Education Committee and Infection Related Movement Disorders. He received the Honorary Membership Award of MDS and at present is the Chair-Elect of MDS-AOS.
